Is there any issue with using oxygenated fuel?
1981 FI model; late June 1981 build.
New owner here 1 week. Had TR7 in the late 70's and early 80's, finally found a really nice TR8.

I'm not sure it if would be beneficial to you unless you have a serious race car. Why do you want to run it?
It probably wouldn't hurt anything if you didn't have cats.
check out this thread.

| Was just asking because all gas in this area has some mixture of ethanol in the gasoline. In the TR8's original handbook it states not to use such fuels in the car. But in the Washington Metro area that is all that seems to be available, albeit at low levels 10% or less, but its all blended. |

That is a Nation wide standard now a days (10% ethanol). Does seem to eat up fuel filters a bit and if you are storing the car for sometime you may want to add a bottle of gas treatment before you put it away.
Thanks

THANKS!
Also, I'm going to get started doing some needed upgrades to the car. It only has 22,000 miles, but needs an exhaust, due to age. I do plan to raise the power on the engine somewhat but need to get an exhaust now. Is it worth while or not to keep the cats?('81 FI engine) I do not have emissions to contend with in this area because of the cars age and county its registered in. I would like to also get the 'monza' type end tips for the duals. What is the suggested set-up cat back or non-cat back? and the sources of the parts?

Ditch the cats if you don't have to have em. A set of headers will eliminate them and vastly improve the breathing. IMO, best bet after that is a good local exhaust shop. Mine has a set of chambered glasspack type muffs and resonator tips. I paid a local guy a couple hundred bucks to bend up tail pipes and fit everything. He did a real neat job. It may be a little loud for some but I get compliments on the sound all the time. The lopey cam helps too. 8)
Should have mentioned Woody has the headers. |
